Dedicated Boring Bar

Breton Ultrix has an exclusive solution composed of a vertical boring bar rigidly secured to the vertical RAM structure. The bar is position-controlled and has powerful hydraulic brakes so it can be locked at any point of its vertical stroke. The ease with which the independent boring bar penetrates the workpiece makes it possible to drastically reduce the number of tools required and the length of the tool holder tapers. This means that turning operations can be performed with higher power and with a significant reduction of vibration.

Metalquartz monobloc

Metalquartz is a special Breton patented polymer matrix quartz compound that guarantees high mechanical strength, vibration damping, and a thermal expansion coefficient similar to that of steel. Thanks to this technology, the base frame of the various versions of Ultrix guarantees reduction of vibrations and consequently greater precision of processed parts.

The result is the creation of a new, clearly superior benchmark in machining centers of this category. Hornet, the head developed by Breton for this machining center, is extremely rigid to guarantee greater accuracy on the most stress-sensitive part, even in the most demanding machining operations.

Both versions of the HAWX are built with one-piece structures, calculated using FEM methodology to optimize structural strength with respect to weight and footprint. Thus, thanks to its ultra-compact design compared to its main competitors, Hawx guarantees greater workable volumes for the same area occupied. Essential to this was the integration of the mechanical parts and options in dedicated spaces within the supporting structure.

Perfect for both wet and dry machining operations

Hawx is designed to be able to work both wet and dry to ensure proper handling of dust, chips and liquids generated during machining. The axis guides are well protected by bellows, and the main drive components are pressurized so as not to be contaminated. The overhead bellows prevent dust from entering the working area and reaching the guides. The Z-axis ball screw is closed and well protected. In addition to the labyrinth, the head is also equipped with a V-ring scraper that provides complete protection when machining aggressive, abrasive materials or with coolant. The tool store is outside the working area to keep the tools holder protected.

Top-class security

Breton Hawx has a double safety system as standard, which also includes an emergency brake on the Z-axis to prevent the axis from falling. All servos and pneumatic actuators are controlled by valves and extra safety contacts. The integration of top-class components allows operations to be performed with open guards, such as tool verification and workpiece checks with the spindle moving at low rpm, in complete safety. The ECO collision avoidance system prevents accidental collisions between components, not only in automatic cycles but also during JOG movements.

Energy efficiency and reduced running costs

The goal is to maximise ROI, taking into account the entire life cycle of the machine. The use of IO-Link low-consumption modular system allows for simple and quick replacement or installation of additional sensors, thus reducing service time and costs. Maintenance costs are reduced by using the VCS Rotary package, which automatically monitors and calibrates the machine. Protection of servo drives by means of bellows and pressurization increases reliability and extends the working life of the components, while for wet applications, the use of self-cleaning or consumable-free filter systems significantly reduces downtime and additional costs for filter replacement.

The guides support system allows longitudinal travel on the columns of 12 meters and more, making it possible to meet specific customer requirements.

Eagle is designed for both wet and dry machining. A series of safety systems was included to protect the most sensitive parts. The axis guides are securely protected by bellows and the main drive train components are pressurised to prevent the ingress of contaminants. In addition, the top bellows keep machining dust inside the work area and prevent it from reaching the guides. Apart from a labyrinth seal, the head has a V-ring wiper seal for complete protection when working with aggressive and abrasive materials and during operations with coolant. The tool store, located outside the work area to protect the tapers, enters only for the time strictly necessary for each tool change.

Temperature variations are under control

Eagle's thermo-symmetrical design makes it possible to reduce structural deformations and allow them to be easily compensated via software. The most sensitive points and those that generate the most heat, such as the head, the A axis and the motor spindle, are cooled using a dedicated chiller in order to reduce heat transmission to other parts of the machine.

Two different heads to cover all requirements

For compact size and versatility, the perfect choice is the Hornet orthogonal head, built for torsional stiffness and accuracy while simultaneously extending the machinable area thanks to its unique design. With maximum power of 18 Nm and speed of 24000 rpm, Hornet is ideal for machining resins, composites, and aluminium. Customers can also opt for the Ghibli fork head when more spindle power and accuracy are needed. Capable of delivering 62 Nm at 28000 rpm, this head provides high removal performance on resins, composites, and lightweight alloys.

This makes it possible to work on large size workpieces in the same footprint, compared to others available on the market.
